Sore Throat…

I love, love, love the power of words. Some say “actions speak louder than words”…I say both have their place in the world and together they provide a great balance.

It’s amazing how the body works, more often than not we don’t listen to what it’s trying to tell us dismissing the aches and pains by putting it down to a busy day. If only we paid more attention, took some time to meditate a little to listen and observe instead of rushing to pop a pill.

Don’t get me wrong, medicine definitely has a place and purpose in this world. I am all for what science has done in providing cures, alleviating pain and giving many a quality of life that they wouldn’t have otherwise. Have I or do I take medication? Yes. Will I continue to take medication? Yes. Is taking medication the first thing I do when i experience pain or discomfort? Not any more.

My point is, taking time to listen to what our body is trying to tell us should be one of the first things we do when discomfort presents, you may be surprised at the amount of things you can treat by listening instead of running to the medicine cabinet. Of course this does not apply in an emergency! In the case of an emergency call an ambulance or seek medical attention asap.

We seem to be quick to dismiss the messages from our body because at times it’s the easiest thing to do, confronting what may be is wellll…confronting!

Sore throat…is what I discovered happens to me every time I am silenced by a situation or by a person/people or, when I don’t feel comfortable or safe to speak up…my throat hurts. It’s not a bad pain, just a dull ache that tells me something is not quite right. Often I’ve thought it’s my immune system not being right or too much air con in an evening and it could well be these things but, sometimes it’s a little warning to look deep within.

I figured it out by getting curious and taking the time to ask and “listen”. I really dislike not feeling well and this sore throat was starting to p!$$ me off! It keeps on showing up for me quite often so I put two and two together and found that every time I am or feel silenced my throat hurts. Looking back through the years at difficult and hard situations this has happened many many times before, the sore throat isn’t just a sore throat…it’s my body telling me something needs to change.

Time for change is the message our body is trying to relay to us when any type if illness shows up. It could be one of many things…change how or what we eat, change or tweak our fitness routine, change what we do or don’t do in our spare time, change the way we work or what we do for work, change who and what we surround ourselves with and so on. The size (big or small) of what we are changing is not what matters, what matters is that we make the change to align with what brings us health, serenity, peace and unconditional love. Do your best not to look back to see where you need to go, although your past might show you what you don’t want or need, it has nothing new to offer you. Look forward and take small steps to make the change your body and soul needs to thrive in this epic opportunity of life that we are given.

Take those you love and that love you with you on this journey, for they are the ones that will stand by your side and push you to do the things that bring you health, happiness, laughter, love and…life. I myself have a very small network of people who I choose to surround myself with on a daily basis. My children, my fiance and my parents…for me it is alway quality of quantity. Walk away from things and people that do not wish to lift you higher and closer to what brings you health, joy and peace to your heart. Not everyone will want to see you healthy, at peace and fulfilled so…if you have someone like that in your life in any way shape or form have the courage to open the door and show them out. We are not given this body experience on earth for a long time, if anything the last two years have shown us is that we can be here one moment and gone the next. Surround yourself with those that you want to lift higher and who want to lift you…both they and you deserve it.

With Kindness,

Roberta Lettieri
